Student Coaching
Deciding what to do when you “grow up” can be a long quest that begins very early in life. In my experience, the earlier you start making data-driven, thoughtful decisions about what you want to pursue in both education and career, the better!
Start Your Journey with Confidence
Stop Guessing. Start Strategizing.
Discover your teen’s natural blueprint for college, career, and beyond.
As a student, you're constantly asked, "What do you want to do with your life?" It’s a heavy question. Standard personality tests tell you how you feel, but they don't reveal how your brain is wired to solve problems, learn, and succeed.
The Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) changes the game.
Instead of a subjective questionnaire, the HAB is an objective, performance-based assessment. Through a series of interactive, timed "brain games," it isolates your natural talents (aptitudes). When we combine these results with personalized coaching, we eliminate the guesswork—helping you choose the right high school courses, college majors, and career paths with absolute certainty.
-
Avoid the frustration of changing majors or feeling stuck. We find the intersection of what you love and what you are naturally great at.
-
Discover your exact "learning channels." You will learn how to study for college-level exams using your brain's natural strengths rather than brute-force memorization.
-
Your aptitudes stabilize around age 14 and remain constant for life. Your customized 30+ page report and career database match act as a compass for your entire adult life.
Why Students Love the HAB
💡 A Note to Parents: Protect Your Investment & Their Peace of Mind
As a parent, you want to see your child confident, motivated, and equipped for the real world. But navigating today's academic landscape can be incredibly stressful—and expensive.
According to recent education data, up to 80% of college students change their major at least once, often adding semesters of costly tuition. Many change paths simply because they chose a field based on interest, only to realize the day-to-day work doesn't fit how their brain naturally processes information.
The HAB is the ultimate guardrail for your educational investment.
By measuring hardwired aptitudes rather than fleeting interests, this assessment uncovers the environments where your teen will naturally thrive and feel energized.
Note
Parents are highly encouraged to join the final 30 minutes of our feedback session so we can align on next steps together.
What you gain as a parent:
Financial Clarity
Confidently direct your tuition dollars toward degrees and paths that stick.
Reduced Friction
Shift from nagging about the future to supporting a data-backed plan your teen actually owns.
A Lifetime Asset
Because these traits don't change, the insights we uncover today will guide them through college graduation, their first job, and eventual career advancements.
The Coaching Process
From Insight to Action
One: The Assessment
The student completes 19 interactive work samples online. It takes about 3 hours total and can be split into comfortable, bite-sized sessions at home.
Two: Deep-Dive Analysis
I analyze the 30+ page personalized profile and the Career Exploration Supplement, looking for unique clusters of talent that point to specific industries.
Three: The Personalized Debrief
We meet for a 90-minute 1-on-1 strategy session (parents join the final 30 minutes). We unpack exactly what the data means, translating percentiles into real-world clarity.
Four: Your Roadmap
The student walks away with a concrete, actionable plan for choosing classes, picking a major, or applying to internships that fit them perfectly.
Problem-Solving Style: Are they a rapid-fire diagnostic thinker, a methodical planner, or a creative idea generator?
Spatial Reasoning: Do they naturally excel with concrete, 3D structures (engineering, architecture, surgery) or abstract concepts (law, business, software)?
Learning & Memory Style: Do they remember things best by hearing them, seeing them, or physically interacting with them?
Workplace Fit: Do they thrive as a big-picture generalist leading a team, or a deep-dive specialist mastering a craft?

The Whole Person Model
The Highlands Ability Battery (HAB) and its underlying Whole Person Model provide an objective, performance-based framework that connects your natural talents with real-world choices to guide your academic and career path.
Understanding the Whole Person Model
Unlike traditional tests that rely on self-reporting or subjective guessing, the Highlands Ability Battery uses 19 timed, performance-based work samples to measure your actual hardwired aptitudes. The Whole Person Model then places those objective results into the broader context of your life.
The model evaluates eight essential factors to help you make confident decisions during your school years and early career transitions
Abilities: Your natural, hardwired traits and aptitudes measured objectively through the HAB.
Skills: The learned tasks and competencies you develop through education and practice.
Personal Style: Your unique approach to communication, problem-solving, and interaction.
Interests: Your developed preferences that combine with your natural talents.
Family History: Your background and experiences that shape your work ethic.
Values: The core principles guiding your personal and professional choices.
Goals: The short- and long-term objectives that drive your daily actions.
Career Development Cycle: The stage you are in as you navigate education and major life transitions. [1]

The process allowed me to recognize aspects and aptitudes about myself that I wasn’t fully aware of and brought it all together in a broader perspective for me. I found collaborating with a coach very beneficial. Jill presented so many valuable points for me to consider. I found the Highlands Ability Assessment to be very helpful and has given me a bigger, overall picture to how I approach things in general.
